"Teton Creek" 18 x 24 in.
"Teton Creek Study" 9 x 12 in
Earlier this fall I posted one of my studies that turned into a studio painting (see November 20th post). Here is another study to studio painting I have been working on. In this studio painting, the major adjusted I made was moving the focal point. In the study, I put it right smack in the middle (again!). In the studio version, I moved it over to left hand side of the painting. I also attempted to break up some of the lines in the painting like the willows and bank (thought they were way to straight across in the study). I put a little more color and contrast into the studio version as well.
I'm not sure if it's completely done as I may make a few adjustments but we're getting close.

Gregg, I like the lighting in the studio version, the colors in the stream are so lively.
ReplyDeleteThey are both great. I like the stronger colors of the larger version. I also like what looks like slightly softer edges in the smaller one. It is always interesting how paintings change when you enlarge them. It rarely works to do it exactly the same. I think the changes you made really worked.
ReplyDeleteThanks Guys! I think your right Doug the edges could be a little softer. That probably will be one of the last adjustments I make.
ReplyDeleteI think both paintings are great and didn't mean to imply that you should change either. I was just observing differences in them. My friends and I have often talked about the challenges of enlarging a painting. Many times it doesn't work. Sometimes for example a great small painting doesn't have enough interest when enlarged.
ReplyDeleteYour composition and painting did work well as you enlarged it. Well done!
